Overview
The client provides one-on-one and group music lessons online, connecting students with professional instructors globally. Prior to this engagement, instructors reported that standard video tools made instrument audio sound “muffled and robotic” — a core product problem.
Challenge
- Default WebRTC noise suppression removed harmonic overtones from instruments
- Latency above 120ms makes synchronized playing impossible
- Existing platforms offered no per-session audio processing configuration
- Sheet music sharing required screen share, which introduced additional latency
Solution
KubeAce deployed LiveKit on Kubernetes with custom room configuration profiles:
- Audio processing bypass for instrument sessions — preserving full frequency range without noise gate interference
- Adaptive bitrate audio tuned to 48kHz stereo for instrument tracks
- Interactive annotation layer built on top of LiveKit’s data channels for real-time sheet music markup
- Session recording via LiveKit Egress for playback and instructor review
Results
Post-launch, instructor satisfaction scores increased significantly, with specific feedback on audio quality. The platform now handles group sessions of up to 50 participants, including ensemble practice sessions.
